Lumkile currently serves as the Chairman of the Musa Group. With his passion for economics and education, he is also currently the Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Business Science of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, where he is also completing his PhD. Lumkile is a strategist, economist and a leader. He was employed by the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa as a Chief Economist and Divisional Executive for Professional Services for the past ten years. His role included positioning the IDC as a leader in development finance in Africa. His responsibilities included overseeing the analyses of the macro and micro-economic environment (business, economic, industry and policy) globally and locally. As a consequence of this role, he has a respected thought leadership profile in South Africa and throughout the region, where he writes and presents on radio, print media and television on political economy.
Group Chief Executive
Will has over 20 years of investment experience, with transaction know-how in Africa, and has closed dozens of transactions throughout the sub-continent. As a founding partner of the Musa Group, Will co-managed a team that generated more than 5x in monetary returns on their inaugural 1996 African private equity fund. As Group CEO, Will is responsible for leading the firm’s transformation as a leading provider of relevant services and products to Africa’s emerging middle class. Having started his investment banking career at Merrill Lynch, Will holds an S.B. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Will’s aim for the Musa Group, is to fuel innovation and growth, living up to the axiom of “In Africa, for Africans, by Africans”. His business ventures ensure that the opportunities created, invest back into South Africa on a community level, these opportunities empower small and medium sized businesses to give back to the nation.
Managing Director: Musa Capital
Antoine currently heads up the private equity and advisory business for the Group. He has over 25 years of global transactional work experience, and over 20 years’ experience in executing complex financial transactions in the emerging markets of Africa, where his focus is on connecting global capital with the African opportunity. His experience includes investment practicum, with specific expertise throughout SADC, East and West Africa, and he has worked on transactions ranging from US$10M to US$1BN. Among other sectors, he has transaction expertise across infrastructure (including roads), energy, telecoms, financial services, property and agri-processing sectors. He has expertise in corporate, project and real estate financing, as well as in using financial engineering techniques such as derivatives and securitizations. His previous work experience includes corporate finance and acquisitions at NYNEX (now Verizon). He holds an Executive Management Certification from Babson College and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Boston University.
Nomavuso is a Chartered Accountant and a Non-Executive Director of AWCA Investment Holdings. She received her training from Deloitte and Touche, and after completing her articles she spent one year at Deloitte before joining Sizwe Ntsaluba VSP (formerly Nkonki Sizwe Ntsaluba). She started the Corporate Governance division that housed the internal audit services, as she identified this opportunity during the introduction of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). She was also involved in staff development and training as a staff partner for five years. Some of her major clients included Eskom, South African Airways, MTN and Sentech. She is a member of the Audit Risk Committee of the Pan-African Infrastructure Development Fund. Board memberships include the Land Bank, Winhold, AIH, Pareto, Nedbank Optimum Coal Ltd and Telkom S.A. Ms Mnxasana obtained her B Compt and Hons from the University of South Africa.
Tshepo currently holds the position of Investment Associate at the Public Investment Corporation (PIC). Tshepo has ten years’ experience in the field of finance and investment with five years’ experience in developmental investments. He started his career at Umsobomvu Youth Fund graduate programme where he was later appointed Financial Accountant. His responsibilities included investment accounting and administration functions for SMEs as well as financial statements and management accounts relating to Umsobomvu Youth Fund and their partnerships with Business Partners and with Firstrand Group (Momentum and First National Bank). He joined PIC in early 2010 as an Investment Associate where he has worked on transactions in the developmental investments that include SME’s, social infrastructure and environmental sustainability (mainly renewable energy projects). Tshepo holds a B.Com (Honours), Postgraduate Graduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting Sciences, a Postgraduate Graduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences (CTA), SAICA Initial Test of Competency, and Advanced Company Law.
